Dr. Barabas began working in the mental health field in 1992 as a mental health technician at Pocono Medical Center (now Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono) inpatient psychiatric department.
Dr. Barabas has worked in various clinical roles in the mental health field while earning his advanced degrees in Social Work and Psychology. Dr. Barabas received mental health training while working for Newton Memorial Hospital in Newton NJ, Warren Hospital in Phillipsburg NJ, the V.A. Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre PA, and Danville State Psychiatric Hospital in Danville PA. Prior to becoming a Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Barabas was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Dr. Barabas is currently a licensed Psychologist in Pennsylvania and a Practicing Psychologist in New Jersey. He has taught Psychology classes for Northampton Community College at their Monroe campus and has operated an active private practice since 2001.
Dr. Barabas has clinical experience with adults, children, and the elderly. He has developed a reputation of professional excellence in the Northeast Pocono region. He regularly consults with and accepts referrals from physicians to improve psychological problems affecting medical conditions. Dr. Barabas uses cognitive-behavioral methods, family counseling, and psychological testing, to diagnose and treat adults, teenagers, and children with various psychological disorders, dysfunctional behaviors, and relationship problems.
Education
Dr. Barabas graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from East Stroudsburg University in 1999 a Masters degree in Social Work from Marywood University in Scranton Pennsylvania in 2001. He completed a second Masters degree in Clinical Psychology from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2003. Dr. Barabas continued his education at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in the Doctoral Program where he obtained a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2007. He completed a full time yearlong internship at Danville State Psychiatric Hospital working with the chronically mentally ill. He completed his post-doctoral experience with a forensic population in a community agency in Reading PA. Dr. Barabas is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Pennsylvania Psychological Association, and the National Register of Health Service Psychologists.
