Dr. Barabas provides Act 235 psychological evaluations.
What is ACT 235?
The Lethal Weapons Training Act 235 provides certification to privately employed agents to carry a lethal weapon. A lethal weapon is any firearm, device, instrument, material, or any other substance that is capable of bringing about great bodily harm or death. The Lethal Weapons Training Act incorporates education and training as part of being a certified agent.
Who needs ACT 235 Certification?
Anyone in Pennsylvania carrying a firearm for the purpose of employment, such as an armored car driver, armed security guards,
protective patrolmen, private detectives, criminal investigators and other similar jobs that require carrying and using lethal weapons in
their employment. Carrying a firearm for employment is regulated completely separate from regular concealed carry. Having a concealed carry permit does not allow you to carry a firearm for employment purposes and having passed ACT235 does not allow you to carry a firearm while not working.
What is needed?
Before you can enroll at a PA State Police Certified Act 235 Lethal Weapons Training School, you must make application and be accepted into the program.
Pennsylvania requires that all Act 235 Security Agent Certification applicants have a Psychological Examination administered by a PA Licensed Psychologist as part of the application process. The Psychological exam involves three basic components; 1) A clinical interview to observe and evaluate the examinees attitude, demeanor, cooperation with others, and ability to follow instructions. During this interview, you will be asked to provide information about your personal, health, educational, employment, and legal history. 2) A Psychological test (called MMPI-2) is administered and scored. 3) A written report is prepared on the standard Act 235 forms and mailed.
The Act 235 Psychological evaluation charge is $200.00 dollars due at the time of evaluation. (Unfortunately the Act 235 psychological evaluation is typically not covered by health insurance. We accept cash, check, or charge)
